Six Stringed Snuggler - Voyage-Air Guitar takes a rest!

Day 3:
The Ship left Nassau around 8 AM but Cheyenne didn’t leave the bed until 12. I grabbed 2 cups of coffee and 2 bananas, Adam grabbed us a bottle of champagne, and we piled on to the back of a sofa with our fellow Nashvillians to watch Turbo Fruits. After that it was all around decided that the upper deck pool was the place to be. Mary and I took the guitar with us so Mimi of Heavy Cream and Christina of D. Watsui could get their hands on it for a bit, the girls played around on it for a while before hitting the water. Then I met up with Bayan and he played a few songs on the champagne stage with the Voyage Air and was also impressed with the solid body rosewood sound.
I honestly can’t remember what lead us to this next point but all I know is we were getting “stick-and-poke” (prison tats to some) in someone’s cabin. The “artists” also enjoyed the guitar’s travel friendliness. After that we watched Thee Oh Sees last performance on board and partook in the open bar hour. The rest is a blur and frankly quite debacherous so we’ll just skip on to the terrible morning. I found R.J. Jennings asleep in my cabin and he looked rather lonely so Mary and I decided that maybe Voyage Air Guitar should keep him company and play teddy bear for a bit. R.J. seemed comforted by the 6 stringed snuggler and probably had no idea we were photographing him. Disembarking was rough and Mary and I had 7 hours before our flights home so we took voyage air to the beach to reflect on our trip and all the wonderfully awful decisions made that weekend. These were our conclusions: People go on cruises so they can make bad choices, white people don’t go to jail in the Bahamas, If you order a bottle of champagne in the dining room it’s probably $100, rock and roll shows on a boat is the best idea ever, and if you are going to be too punk for life then you need a guitar that can go everywhere and survive everything you can and come out looking and sounding better than you the next day.

Day 2:
Woke up in the Bahamas and had breakfast with Adam of Bad Cop. Met up with Dave of Turbo Fruits and brought them both back to the cabin to check out the guitar, Adam was really excited about the folding action and Dave was quite impressed with the sound quality. Both were more than willing to pose for a few pictures.

Then we went to the lounge to catch Jacuzzi Boys and Surfer Blood, after the shows and a few drinks we decided to hit the beach in Nassau, which is not walking distance. Bayan Mogharabi (photogragher/videographer documenting the cruise) and I were beyond the state of reason enough to know that we lacked driving capabilities and came to the conclusion to separate from our smarter crew and rent a motorcycle.

Bad plan.

We did not make it very far before we found ourselves face to face with the Caribbean asphalt. My left leg was caught under the bike a dragged a few feet. Luckily, I left my Voyage-Air Guitar safely in the cabin, although taking it along was tempting.

When I sat up in the middle of the road and realized my leg was stuck under the bike. I was not nearly as horrified as when I looked up and saw the broken gas tank pouring liters of gasoline inside my purse all over all 6 of my cameras. Luckily, they were all fine and the film processed beautifully; my leg, not so much.

Didn’t really slow me down though, we ended up cabbing it to the beach anyways and had a successful photo shoot as the sun set behind us. Later on we went to Senor Frogs (the epitome of tourista hell) and rocked out to Turbo Fruits, Vivian Girls and Black Lips.

Bruise Cruise Day One

I had the great fortune to be sent on a grand adventure called the Bruise Cruise by this super cool, fairly new guitar company called Voyage-Air Guitar. It's a really cool folding guitar for travel and perfect for a cruise ship full of guitar players. It fits in the overhead compartment on an airplane, goes to the beach or really anywhere that you'd want to take a guitar.

And to top off my luck, my continual partner in crime and previous room mate in Mexico, Mary, got to come too!

On our first day, we woke up in a pink motel in Miami, Florida that was deeply reminiscent of our days in Mexico City. We were excited to have some time before embarkation started to spend the day exploring.

We went on a hunt for a health food store because after our evening at Grand Central getting our asses kicked by The Black Lips, Vivian Girls, and Ms. Pussy Cat we were in deep need of Kombucha. However, we couldn’t seem to locate one and had to move on to the next best thing. We started looking for a liquor store. We each purchased a bottle of champagne for our voyage (Carnival is kind enough to allow each guest to bring one on board) and 2 forloko’s to assist us in repacking and making our way to port. Upon boarding the ship, we were quickly accosted by cruisers that wanted to see the Voyage-Air Guitar that was cleverly tucked into it's specially designed backpack.

My first show aboard the ocean liner was Thee Oh Sees in Carnival’s xanadu lounge, as the regular moshing and sloshing of liquor ensued, slickening the sparkling marble floors with booze, the question of the trip was finally answered. Hard rock shows on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean, best idea or worst idea ever? Best. Ever. Duh. There is nothing like being in a crowd of 50 or more people all moving, pushing, shoving and dancing in their own ruckus fashion while adding the element of a gargantuan ship rising and falling with the Atlantic ocean beneath you.
